Generally an over looked African Hardwood which as a medium to dark reddish brown colour with some black stripping, which ages to a darker brown.

The sapwood is a well defined pale yellow

Considered to be a difficult timber to work, due to its high density with an high degree of blunting effect to tooling.

Mopane make excellent turned objects which finish's well with wax's.
